BIOGRAPHY

My name is Kaliopi Matheakis I am of Greek and Latin decent. I was born in the year of 1981 in the United States of America, New York, but I was raised in Greece.
When I was 8 years old, my family and I moved to Greece in Heraklion of Crete, my father’s town of origin.Today I live in the U.S.A.

From an early age I started working on various small constructions, without attending any courses, as I am self/God taught. The years were passing by and my love for  visual arts was growing more and more. I was painting and giving form to the clay, by making various constructions. However, I had a special ability in painting. I started designing, with a special devoutness  sketches, especially inspired by cartoons. After graduating from Secondary school I decided, to continue my studies in a Technical and Professional high school in order to become a commercial artist. I graduated from school in 1999. Subsequently, at the same year, I started my studies in cosmetology at OAED school of Heraklion. Up until today I work as a hair extensions specialist- cosmetologist.

In the period of 2003 to 2006 my profession pursued me to travel a lot in Europe, participating in various cosmetologist training's, shows and seminars. However, I had the opportunity to visit many valuable museums. At that time, my painting was getting a more maturistic form, by acquiring it's own personal identity.

By the end of 2006 until 2009, my interest in art decreased and eventually I stopped working on art. Although my interest was faded, my passion for art remained the same.

Everything started on one afternoon of August 2009 at the hair salon I used to own, in which I had displayed some of my art. As I was observing my pieces of art, God opened my eyes to see the Gift that he has given me. At that moment my conscience  brightened up and I began to draw and construct again. However, this time around I was using a pioneering style with a particular material: wire.

Thus, I began since that day for one year  working non stop.

When everybody was sleeping, I was  stayed awake.
When everybody stopped working , I continued working.
When everybody was going out , I stayed in.
And all of this with joy in my heart ,
and was loving  it every day more and more,
because of the golden moments I experienced. "

The first piece I created with wire & God's help:
 "Reborn Body" (3,60 x 1,80 cm)

For every piece, I was/am receiving from Above title and vision it was/is like a river flowing with Love and Peace upon me that I can not explain with words. But I was/am trying to form them with wire "I am knitting with wire" ( merging two different techniques in one , sculpting & drawing )  or draw on canvas, hoping that people will  receive at least one drop of the rivers water or see at least one glint of those golden moments.

After one year. . .
At 7-7-2010, I had my first personal exhibition in Greece. The title of the exhibition, “Wedding”, one of the reasons giving that title is because I am merging  two different techniques in one.
